I Martin Luther King Jr. seek equal rights for blacks all over America. For years blacks have been oppressed ever since the time of slavery. Blacks have been denied their basic civil rights, which is against all of the ideals in which this great country has been founded upon. No longer should blacks be denied from the same public education as whites, forced to drink out of separate water fountains, or sit in the back of the bus. This country was established on the words of the Constitution, stating that all men created equal. This does not specify color, no, so why are blacks denied of their civil rights as not only Americans, but as human beings as well.
Being born in a Christian family, I have learned to treat others with respect, or treating others the way I wanted to be treated. I informally graduated high school; skipping the ninth and twelfth grade. Later I graduated with my Bachelors of Arts degree in sociology from Morehouse College. Then I attended Crozer Theological Seminary, where I graduated with a Bachelors of Divinity and I met my future wife Coretta Scott. I am now a Baptist minister and I preach in church and deliver speeches all over America. Even throughout my education and my work, what I have learned as a child has always stayed with me. However, no matter how much blacks had tried to use respect to receive their civil rights, never were they granted them.
Now is the time that blacks must stand up against oppression. Most would respond with violence, but we must learn from those such as Ghandi and his nonviolent protests. In other words, practicing civil disobedience. Sit-ins, boycotts, marches, just some of the ways in which I intend to lead blacks to victory against oppression and gaining our civil rights.
